PSAMIDES : Preparation and study of several innovations answering the marinas’ needs
Supported by the Interreg MED European program, this project federates ten partners among which NOVELTIS, Eurorégion Pyrénées-Méditérannée and several mediterranean ports: Ports of Balearic Islands, Ports of the Generalitat of Catalunya, Port de Sète, Port of Héraklion…
The objective of the projects is as follows:
To support the sustainable growth and the potential for economic development of marinas through the implementation of innovative solutions, namely concerning the management of the tourists’ flow, the sustainable management of resources or the creation of services adapted to the new needs of Blue Growth professionals or the marinas users.
Psamides connects two major sectors of the Blue Growth in the Mediterranean area. On the one hand the ports and on the other hand maritime and coastal tourism. Both sectors combined account for 51% of GDP, 69% of jobs and 61% of profits generated by the Blue Economy among the E.U. (Source : EPM study)
Yachting constitutes an important part of the touristic market. Thus it appears both relevant and key to conciliate the economic development of the port tool including the tourist industry, with the continental zone.

In the context of the Interreg Méditerranée European cooperation program, Psamides belongs to the number one axis: « to support the innovative capacity in the Mediterranean in order to develop an intelligent and sustainable growth ».
Psamides ifs the acronym of the project: Ports Small and Medium alliance for Sustainable Development. In the Greek mythology the psamides were the nymphs of sand beaches, which they protected and preserved.
NOVELTIS is contributing actively to the project through elaborating and studying various innovative solutions in close cooperation with the ports.
The testing ports are:
- Porto Cristo: Majorca – Balearic Islands
- Port d’Andratx: Majorca – Balearic Islands
- La Colonia de San Jordi: Majorca – Balearic Islands
- Blanes – Catalonia
- Sant Carles de la Rapita – Catalonia
- Port de Sète : Occitania – France
- Heraklion port Authority: Isles of Crete – Greece
The test phase will be followed by an analysis of the benefits of each technology and by a phase of dissemination of the learnings towards the other Mediterranean ports.
